What Is Lotto 6/49?
If you are new to Canadian Lottery and Lotto 6/49, the first thing you are going to want to do is familiarize yourself with the basics of the game. This is a fairly straightforward matter, but there are still a few things you need to keep in mind while playing the game.
Also, it isn’t a bad idea by any means to get a little background on Lotto 6/49. In just a few short decades, it has grown to be one of the most popular Canadian pastimes there is.
All About Lotto 6/49
There are two national lottery games that are available in Canada. One of them is Lotto 6/49. The game was released to the public on June 12th, 1982, and it quickly became an enormously popular lottery game. It drew headlines immediately for being the first national Canadian Lottery game to give players the ability to pick their own numbers. Up to that point, national lottery games such as Loto Canada, used the system of tickets that already had the numbers printed on them. Lotto 6/49 was designed to buck the trend, and work to eliminate those other lotto games from the national landscape. At this point, it has certainly succeeded.
The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation is responsible for overseeing the game. They are the ones who draw the winning numbers each Wednesday and Saturday. The Ryo-Catteau Tulipe ball machine is responsible for the actual drawing process.
Each game only costs three dollars to play. This entitles you to play in the Main Draw, but it also gives you a special ten-digit number for an additional drawing. The game comes with a guaranteed one-million dollar payout, and the total jackpot does not stop growing, until someone actually wins. You will also want to keep in mind that you can play as many as twenty-six draws in advance.
And how do you play?
Playing Lotto 6/49
The actual Lotto 6/49 game is a reference to the gameplay itself. Six numbers are drawn from a set of forty-nine. If you have a ticket that matches up to all six numbers drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you win the jackpot. As mentioned before, the game also comes with a guaranteed one-million dollar payout. The jackpot prize itself will be at least five-million dollars. You can play multiple picks on a single ticket. You can also go with a quick pick, or choose the numbers yourself.
There is also the bonus number. If your ticket has five of the original numbers drawn, in addition to the bonus number, you’re a winner. While the payout in this case is not as significant as the main jackpot, you still get the chance to walk away with a sizable amount of money. Typically, the payout for bonus number winners is anywhere between one hundred and five hundred thousand dollars. Multiple winners of the main prize or bonus number prize will split the winnings amongst themselves.
If the jackpot is not won, the total rolls over into the next drawing. There are also add-on games that you can play.
