ROCKY HILL >> When you’re a CT Lottery retailer, you never know when a huge winner will walk through your doors.
Kabiruddin Popatyia, owner of Pops Grocery in New Haven, recently sold his largest winning ticket ever — a “Win up to $5,000 a Month for Life” top prize winning scratch ticket, according to lottery officials.
“I feel so happy that our store has a winning ticket!” said Kabiruddin Popatiya in a release.
Pops Grocery, 267 Grand Ave., will receive a $12,000 check from the CT Lottery just for selling the ticket, according to the release.
The lucky winner, also of New Haven, arrived at CT Lottery headquarters this week to claim her top prize and opted to take the monthly payments, officials said.
The CT Lottery’s “WIN FOR LIFE” instant games rank as some of the most popular scratch games in the state, lottery officials said.
“And it’s no wonder—each of the Win for Life top prizes are based on the longevity of its winner, with a guaranteed minimum total payout,” officials said in the release. “So, depending on the Win for Life game that is played, the top prize winner could receive up to $2,000, $5,000, $7,500, or $10,000 a month—every month—for the rest of their life.”
The overall chances of winning a prize in the $3 “Win up to $5,000 a Month for Life” game are 1 in 4.19, according to lottery officials. Of the five top prizes in the game, one more remain to be claimed.
